CARY — In a battle of first year head coaches, Cary’s Kurt Glendenning got the edge over Broughton’s Billy Lane as the Imps took the season opener, 30-24.
With three minutes left in the game, Cary’s Isaiah Gibbons scored from two yards out, but the point after was missed. Broughton marched down the field as Patrick Kearney hit Hayden Lovett for 13 yards and then connected with Rob Case for 20 more. But the drive stalled, and when faced with a fourth down, Kearney was sacked by three defenders on the Cary 30 yard line.
“I thought I’d have jitters but everything was fine. We have a great coaching staff and a great group of guys,” said Glendenning.
Gibbons and Travion Hackney got the bulk of the carries, combining for 46 of the team’s 66 carries. Gibbons had a game high with 26 touches and 95 yards.
