Imps score quick, then withstand rain, Catamounts
September 18, 2012By David Maney II of Cary High School
CARY - The Cary Men's Varsity Soccer route back up the Tri-9 Conference ladder isn't coming as easy as they hoped.
After a slow start to the season and conference schedule, winning 1 of their first 5 games of the schedule, CHS has won their last 3 out of 4 contests, including a rain-filled Tri-9 Conference contest against Panther Creek, 1-0.
Cary's only score and the only score of the contest came in the 6th minute as Luis Toledo de Jesus netted what turned out to be the game winner, off an assist from Hunter Murray.
Murray, from about 30 yards out, sent in a chip shot type kick that Toledo de Jesus connected with as he came across the box and chipped into the net over the PCHS Keeper.
About half way thru the first half is when the rain started and did not stop till the start of the second half, and then rained off an on through-out the contest.
The Imps (3-3, 4-6) did have two other good scoring chances, both coming in the second half, as in the 60th minute Josh Barrett had a good chance in close as his heel shot was knocked just off net by the PCHS keeper and then Yaassine Abahrouz sent one off the crossbar from 20 yards out in the 65th minute.
Panther Creek (3-4, 3-7) did not go quietly into the good night, as they converged on the Cary net late, with several good chances for getting the equalizer.
Cary will face off with Green Hope at GHHS on Wednesday night, then Athens Drive on Monday, 9/24, at home to test to see exactly what direction their program is headed as they approach the second half of the regular season.
