Cary Women's Soccer defeats Panther Creek

March 20, 2012
By David Maney II of Cary High School

Cary - In a battle of two schools from the same city, one Cary team was going to come out on top.

One school looking to move up in the conference rankings, the other looking to keep pace with the state's #1 women's soccer team who are a game ahead of them in the standings.

In traditional fashion, Cary and Panther Creek played another close contest.

In the end, it was a second-half goal from Cary Junior Bria Dixon, a Virgina Tech recruit, that provided the difference in CHS's 2-1 Tri-9 Women's Varsity Soccer win.

Cary, (5-1, 6-1-1), kept pace with Green Hope, who defeated Lee County on the same night, to set up a conference leading match-up for the teams first meeting.

It was Panther Creek that got the scoring first early in the first half.

Off a direct kick from roughly 30 yrds out, PCHS's Maddie Bisantz put a ball just out of the reach of Cary Keeper Mackenzie Williams to put the Lady Catamounts, (3-3-1, 4-3-1), up 1-0.

Cary responded shortly after.  After a couple chances from indirect opportunities from close in moments before, Senior Nikki Hoff put one in on the far post past the PCHS keeper to tie the game at 1.

Thats the way the half closed out with each team having a goal to their favor.

Dixon made it 2-1, CHS, after working the ball in through a host of Panther Creek defenders, she ripped one past the PCHS Keeper to give the Lady Imps the one goal edge.

The Lady Catamounts did not quit by any means, putting several good scoring chances on Cary Keeper Williams.

The best opportunity for Panther Creek to tie the game came late in the second half off a corner kick, as the ball was put on goal off a header attempt but went right into the hands of Williams for the save.

Cary will face Green Hope at home on Wednesday night for a tie of the conference lead with one game remaining in the first half of the season for both team.

Cary will close out the first half of the season against Athens Drive, while Green Hope and Panther Creek will face each other.
