Cary ends Summer league season on high note
July 23, 2009 By David Maney II of Cary High School
Cary - Having a winning season is important, but if you can't, ending it on a high note is just as important.
Especially if the season you just ended can lead into good things happening during the upcoming season in the spring.
Cary's over-all summer league record was not the best but what is worth noting was how they finished the season winning their last three home games.
Two were wins over Granville Central during a double header. First was a 4-0 win the other a 5-4 come from behind triumph.
The last at home was another late inning rally against Raleigh Independent winning 2-1, scoring two in the bottom of the seventh.
On the mound for Cary was Jeremy Harris.
Raleigh Independent threatened twice in the second and third innings but both times Harris and the Imps staved off a run coming across.
In the second, with two outs and a runner on second and third, Harris caught Will Byrd leaning off third toward home and picked him off ending the inning.
In the third, also with two outs and a runner on third, Harris struck-out Andrew Suriano to end the inning.
All was quiet till the seventh.
With one out, Raleigh Independent starting pitcher Josh Jensen walked, stole second, and then stole third.
Harris struck out Byrd for the second out. He got Matt Comer swing at a third strike but the ball got away from catcher Blake Beazlie.
A throwing error allowed Comer to reach first safely and also allowed Jensen to score from third.
Harris closed out the inning picking off Comer at first to end the top of the seventh.
Harris opened up the bottom of the seventh reaching on a single and then advancing to second on a passed ball.
David O'Donnell followed getting a walk. Harris was thrown out at third trying to steal.
David Sutton and Blake Beazlie both reached on walks loading the bases.
Addison Scrivani scored O'Donnell from third on a sacrifice fly tying the game at one and moving Sutton up to third.
Joey Bone was the next up and sent a sharp hit between short and third scoring Sutton and bringing home the winning run.
