Lady Cougars Season Ends in Sectional Semi-Final
February 11, 2013Carroll Jr.-Sr. High School
The Seeger Patriots climbed into a win against the Cougars at Fountain Central in the second Semi-Final game of Sectional 38. The Patriots won 31-30 with a 3-pointer with 28 seconds to play. A Kaitlin Ragan made 3 with just over a minute to play gave the Cougars the lead at 30-28. After Ragan’s made 3, Seeger missed their attempt and the ball deflected out-of-bounds to Carroll. With a minute left in the game and the Cougars leading 31-30, coach McCroskey called a timeout. The Cougars in-bounded the ball and immediately turned it over, giving the Patriots the ball and plenty of time. Then the Patriots heroic 3-pointer was made and still the Cougars had time. Carroll moved the ball into the front court and were whistled for another turnover with 12 seconds to play. The Patriots then in-bounded the ball and were whistled for a turnover. Carroll had the ball with 6 seconds to play and used their final timeout. After getting the ball in play, they were fouled with 2.5 seconds to play. Carroll got the ball in to Kaitlin Ragan who drove to the basket but her final attempt was after the buzzer.
Carroll started strong with four players scoring in the first quarter as they built a 10-3 lead over the Patriots. The second quarter saw the 1-2-2 zone for the Patriots work well as the Cougars scored only 4 points while the Patriots climbed back into the game with 8. The Cougar lead at halftime was 14-11. Carroll struggled to stop Seeger Senior Syneseal in the third as she rattled off 11 points during the quarter and pushed Seeger into the lead. An Eller 3-pointer early in the period kept the Cougars close. Then late in the quarter a Kingery fielder followed by a Worl free-throw and a Spesard fielder closed the gap to 24-22 Seeger at the break. Ragan’s traditional 3-point play in the final quarter pulled the Cougars within one at 26-25. A Syneseal fielder for Seeger put the Patriots up 3. Kingery countered with a fielder setting up Ragan’s 3 for the lead at 30-28.
Carroll finishes their season 14-8. So ends the playing careers of Seniors Kaitlin Ragan and Paige Spesard. Both players had wonderful careers playing for coach McCroskey. I hope for and wish them the best in their futures both at Carroll and after high school. Good luck in softball ladies!!
