January 25, 2013Carroll Jr.-Sr. High School
The Carroll Lady Cougars travelled to Cass county to do battle with the Lady Kings (Queens?) of Lewis Cass. The Kings entered the game with a 4-14 record on their Senior Night. Lewis Cass celebrated three senior players and two senior managers. Senior Maddie Eurit gave a strong performance for her final home game as a King with 10 points and 6 rebounds. Unfortunately it was not enough as the Cougars placed three players in double figure scoring and pulled away for a 47-33 victory. Carroll is now 13-5 with three games to play before Sectionals.
This game started slowly as both teams struggled to make baskets. Carroll started with a free-throw from Ragan, followed by a free-throw from Bailey Worl and they held a 2-0 lead. A Eurit put-back and the game was tied. Carroll then exerted its offensive will and found an open 3-pointer from Eller followed by a three from Ragan and the Cougars closed the quarter leading 8-2. The Kings fought back in the second quarter with 6 points from Eurit and a couple of free-throws. Carroll countered with baskets from Ragan, Brooke Ennis had a put-back and Kingery completed a 3-point play. Carroll led 15-6 before 2 baskets from Eurit closed the quarter and Carroll held a 15-10 halftime advantage.
Carly Kingery opened the third period with three 3-pointers in the first 3 minutes to build a 24-13 lead for the Cougars. The Kings countered with a three followed by free-throws and a deuce from Senior Emily Robertson. A Worl free-throw interrupted the Kings baskets and Robertson added another fielder. Carroll was leading 25-19 when Eller nailed a 3 and MaKayla Jackson made 2 fielders back-to-back and the Cougar lead leaped to 32-19. Two freebies and a 2-pointer for Cass closed the third quarter scoring. Carroll held a 32-23 lead. The Cougars pushed hard, opening the final quarter with a 10-2 run. The Kings answered with 7 points. Carroll closed with another Eller 3-pointer and a Ragan back-door layup. Carroll posted the 47-33 victory.
