Home » Football NewsCardinals Show Best Defensive Effort in Losing Cause.October 4, 2011 By Chad Rutkowski of Cardinal Stritch Catholic High SchoolThe Cardinal Stritch Cardinal football team's defensive unit came up with their best defensive effort so far in a losing effort Friday night at Gibsonburg. The Cardinals fell to the Golden Bears 12-0. The Cardinals posted over two and a half quarters of shut out football against Gibsonburg. The Cardinal defense held their opponent to 4 of 21 and 62 yds.passing. Linebacker Christian Peters lead the way with 11 tackles. Defensive linemen Shawn Zaborski and Andy Geierman chipped in 9 apiece. Linebackers Trent Fuller and Stephen Materni added 9 and 6 tackles respectively. Strong Safety Tyler MacDonald had a fumble recovery and a blocked kick to aid the Cardinals. Zach Denomy led the Cardinals with 45 yds. rushing on 8 carries and 4 catches for 27 yds. Gibsonburg scored on a run off a broken play giving the Bears a first quarter lead. Early in the second quarter, they beat the Cardinals coverage on a pass to finish the scoring for the game. Cardinal Stritch returns home for Homecoming against the Green Bears of Ottawa Hills Saturday Oct. 8 at 7:00 p.m. at Clay.
