10-04-10 -- Cardinal Help Battle Breast Cancer

October 6, 2010
By Chad Rutkowski of Cardinal Stritch Catholic High School

A new week and a new challenge awaited the Cardinals on Monday…in the form of TAAC rivals Toledo Christian!  The match was tough, as we expected, and TC came away with a three set victory 18-25, 17-25, 14-25.  Even if the face of a hard-fought loss, our girls, our program, and our Stritch family have a LOT to be proud of.  Monday, October 4th was also our Volley for the Cure game.  Our “Pink Game” raised money for the Susan G. Komen Foundation for Breast Cancer awareness.  The girls and coaches from both squads wore pink jerseys, the game was played with a pink ball, and we had raffles and prizes that were pink to help us celebrate the event and raise as much as we could.  And raise money we did!  We sent a donation to the Komen Foundation for $1,722.90!  We learned some tough lessons tonight in our match, but we also learned some great life lessons about service, charity, citizenship, teamwork, and good sportsmanship through our fundraiser event.  We are so proud of our Cardinals and our Stritch family and we appreciate the help of our TC brethren to raise money for such a worthy and important cause!  A big thank you once again to all who pitched in and supported!  Way to go all!
