Home » Boys' Basketball NewsTeam Win Over GibsonburgJanuary 24, 2013 Cardinal Stritch Catholic High SchoolThe Cardinals come away with a big home win against Gibsonburg 53-44. The Cardinals improved to 8-5 overall and move into a second place tie with Ottawa Hills at 5-2 in the league.
With Austin Adams going down with a sprained ankle it looked like the Cardinals might falter but with help from the rest of the team they picked up the slack and gave a great team effort. The Cardinals were led by Joey Cousino's 11pts, 3 assists and 3 steals. Brooks Gasser had 10pts and two big defensive charges fouls called on the opponents. Also helping out in the scoring were Robbie Bekier(3-3pointers, two critical ones late in the 4th) with 9pts, Jo-Jo McVicker 9pts and a team leading 7 rebounds, Austin Adams 6pts, Jacob Empie (also a critical 3- pointer late in the 4th) with 4pts and rounding out the scoring were Karl Zacharias and Cody Clayton with 2pts. After an 0-3 start, the Cardinals have won 8 of their last 10 games.
The JV team lost to Gibsonburg 37-26. They were led by Chris Blazevich and Brandon Payeff's 6pts. Stritch will meet Bowsher on the road Tuesday for a tough contest.
