Bench Players Help With Comeback

Cardinal Stritch Catholic High School



The Cardinals moved to 7-5 overall and 4-2 in the league with a thrilling 54-53 
road win at (7-4) Maumee Valley. Stritch came out slow in the first quarter and fell 
behind 19-7, with 3 players getting into foul trouble in the first half. The bench players
(Karl Zacharias, Cody Clayton, Jake Empie) came through with an outstanding 
defensive effort to keep Stritch in striking distance at the half. Down 11 points going into the second half with some defensive adjustments, great determination and belief by the players, the 
Cardinals cut the lead to 5 entering the 4th period.

In a wild back and forth final period with the Cardinals controlling the boards finally secured the 
victory with clutch free throws by Jo Jo McVicker, Brooks Gasser and the last two by 
Austin Adams to put the Cardinals up 3pts with 6sec. to go in the game.

Maumee Valley in-bounded the ball to Davey Brown who drove the length of the court and made a lay-up as time expired. Again a total team effort, leading the way was Austin Adams with 25pts.,9 rebounds. Chipping in with 10pts was Brooks Gasser, Robbie Bekier 6pts and 5 rebounds, Joey Cousino  6pts and 3 assists, Jo-Jo McVicker 5pts. and 6 rebounds, and Karl Zacharias 2pts.  

The JV's lost a close game to M.V.C.D. 34-28 who were led by Bobby Romstadt's 7pts.
The Cardinals next game is this Friday at home against Gibsonburg.
