Varsity Team Suffer Tough Loss
December 12, 2012
Cardinal Stritch Catholic High SchoolThe Cardinal boys basketball team let one slip away
Tuesday night, at home, in a loss to Fremont St. Joe's 61-59 to fall to 0-3 on the season. The Cardinals came out
strong and built an 18-9 1st. quarter lead. They extended the lead to 12 points and led 50-39 going into the 4
quarter. Sloppy defense combined with missed shots led
to the comeback for St. Joe's and they took the lead 58-57 with 45 seconds left in the game. A lay-up by Jo-Jo
McVicker with 35 seconds left on the clock gave the
Cardinals a 59-58 lead.
Fremont St. Joe came right down the court uncontested
and made a layup to take the lead 60-59. The Cardinals
came down the court and got off two good shots but
neither would fall. After the rebound, and a Strtich foul,
St. Joe's made the first of two free throws but missed the
second and with 1.5 seconds left, Robbie Bekier got the
rebound, dribbled and took a half court shot that would
not go in leaving the Cardinals on the short end of a hard fought game.
The Cardinals were led by Austin Adams 18 pts. and 7
rebounds, Joey Cousino's 10 pts. and 7 rebounds and
Robbie Bekier chipped in with 11 pts. (three 3 pointers).
The Cardinals next game is this Friday at Emmanuel
Christian.
