Senecas Win Matinee Showdown

Saturday afternoon found the Lady Cardinals heading to Tiffin to take on the Lady Senecas of Tiffin Calvert. The Lady Cardinals battled a very talented Calvert team hard throughout the contest, but the hot shooting Lady Senacas opened a 20-13 lead after one quarter. It was more of the same in the second quarter as the Lady Cardinals competed at a high level only to find themselves down 40-29 at the break. The Lady Cardinals turned up their defensive intensity in the third quarter limiting the Lady Senecas to 9 points, but had difficulty converting at the offensive end scoring 6 points. Despite being down the Lady Cardinals continued to compete to the end outscoring the Lady Senecas 17-16 in the last stanza. Continuing to play hard the Lady Cardinals dropped a non-league decision on the road 65-52. Seven players hit the scoring column,Sophomore Cecelia Gozdowski had a varsity career best 20 points to lead the Lady Cardinals. Senior Abby Mass contributed 14. Junior Caty Rieker played a strong second half adding 6. Two Freshman Kali Hardy and Maggie Merren chipped in 4 points each, while Senior Olivia Latz and Junior Kirsten Zalewski rounded out the scoring with 2 points each.
