JV Gridders Finish 3-3, Fall to Northwood

October 23, 2012
By Craig Meinzer of Cardinal Stritch Catholic High School

The Cardinal Stritch JV Football team fell to Northwood Monday night 18-6 in another exciting game. The improved Cardinals finish the season with a .500 record at 3-3.

Cardinal Stritch scored first on a Kevin Hohenberger 8 yard run in the first quarter. This score was set up by a Jake Halcomb recovery of a botched Northwood catch of a Cardinal punt. Northwood answered later with a scoring pass with 30 seconds left in the first half.

Northwood tacked on another score with the opening drive of the second half on good catch after the pass was tipped by cornerback Abel Castillo. The Cardinals responded by driving deep into Northwood territory only to be stopped on downs.  The two teams battled into the fourth quarter with the Cardinals again driving but only to be stopped on a pass interception.  The interception return gave the Rangers a short field and the final drive for a touchdown of the evening.

The JV Cardinals finished the season with a 3-3 record. They defeated Toledo Woodward, Lakota, and Ottawa Hills while losing to Woodmore, Edon, and Northwood. The young men bring much excitement and enthusiasm to the game and they appreciated the fan support at each of their contests.
