Tim Lynn Advances to Regionals
October 22, 2012By Chad Rutkowski of Cardinal Stritch Catholic High School
The Division III cross country meet was held on Saturday, October 20th, at Eells Park in Bettsville. The boys varsity team failed in their quest to gain a berth in the Regional meet, finishing 8th in the 13-team field. As expected, New London claimed the championship with 17 points and Ashland Crestview finished as runner-up with 67. On a brighter note, sophomore Tim Lynn again qualified for the Regional meet with an 8th place finish in a season best time of 17:24.8 on a cold and windy day.
Senior Captain Jake Lynn closed out his career with a 27th place finish (18:27.5). Nathaniel Kuhn (43; 19:07), Bobby Romstadt (55; 19:51.1) and Robert Johnson (60; 20:11.8), rounded out the top five runners. Freshman Nick Korducki (61) and Zack Matthews (69), completed the varsity team, with times of 20:12.1 and 20:51, respectively.
Unfortunately, for the third time this season the girls team did not score as a team, as only four runners were available for the District meet. But outstanding individual efforts led to season best times for each Cardinal! Junior Captain Rosa Mondragon led the girls team with a 31st place finish (21:48.6). Multi-sport athlete Cailyn Horna ran 23:50.3, good for a 62nd place finish. Jessica Zavela (88) and Emily Turski (90) ran close together for much of the race, finishing in 26:50 and 27:13.2, respectively. The 19-team girls field was led by champion Plymouth (90), who scored a narrow victory over runner-up Sandusky St. Mary (92).
Tim Lynn will compete in the Regional cross country meet at Youngstown Boardman High School next Saturday, October 27th. Tim will run at 11:00 AM in the first of six races as runners and teams attempt to qualify for a berth in the state championships the following week. Good luck to Tim and congratulations to the cross country team for another successful season.
