Home » Cross Country NewsTAAC ChampionshipsOctober 16, 2012 Cardinal Stritch Catholic High SchoolCardinal Stritch hosted the annual TAAC Cross Country Championships at Maumee Bay State Park on Saturday, October 13th. In the varsity boys race, Toledo Christian repeated as team champion with 31 points, followed by Cardinal Stritch (46), Gibsonburg (61) and Ottawa Hills (72). Danbury, Emmanuel Christian and Northwood fielded incomplete teams (less than five runners). Leading the way for the Cardinals was sophomore Tim Lynn in second place, with a time of 17:41.6. Joining Tim as first team All-TAAC was brother Jake in fifth place (18:11.5). Earning a second team All-TAAC award was Bobby Romstadt in 11th place (19:07.7). Rounding out the top five for the Cardinals was Nathaniel Kuhn in 15th (19:19.4) and Nick Korducki in 22nd, with a personal best time of 19:42.8. Completing the varsity team scoring was Zack Matthews (28, 21:03.3) and Robert Johnson (32, 21:37.6). Also running for the team was Kyle Killian (37, 23:09.1), Tyler Gawrych (38, 23:27.5), and Casey Flowers (40, 23:49.4).
In the varsity girls race, Toledo Christian also repeated as team champion with a low score of 23 points. Gibsonburg finished in second place with 36, followed by Danbury (104), Cardinal Stritch (107), and Ottawa Hills (109). Emmanuel Christian and Northwood did not field complete teams. As she has all year, Rosa Mondragon led the Cardinals with a tenth place finish (22:13.1) to earn second-team All-TAAC. Cailyn Horna made a fine finishing sprint to capture 23rd (24:40.9), followed closely by freshman Abbie Reichert in 26th (25:03.6). Completing the girls scoring was Hannah Tucker (38, 29:47.9), Emily Turski (39, 30:07.2) and Jessica Zavela (40, 30:07.6).
The Kateri Academy had several outstanding efforts in the junior high championship races. Andrew Flowers received a first-team All-TAAC award for his fourth place effort (12:37.6) in the boys race. In the girls race, Alexandrea Derrer ran to an 8th place finish (15:36.5) and seventh grader Brook Jennings captured 12th place (15:55.6). The Gibsonburg boys and the Ottawa Hills girls reigned supreme as junior high team champions this year. Congratulations to the Cardinal Stritch Athletic Department for again hosting a successful league championship event!
The varsity cross country team will be back in action on Saturday, October 20th, at the District Championships, held at Eells Park in Bettsville. The boys team will compete in District 3, scheduled to begin at 2:20 PM. The girls team will compete in District 1, beginning at 3:00 PM. The top four teams and the top 16 individuals will advance to Regional competition the following Saturday.
