Home » Cross Country NewsStritch Cross Country Runs Well at OtsegoSeptember 3, 2012 Cardinal Stritch Catholic High School Otsego High School hosted their annual Cross Country Invitational at Mary Jane Thurston Park in Grand Rapids, Ohio, on Saturday, September 1st. The varsity teams from Cardinal Stritch both placed seventh in the nine-team field. In the varsity girls race, defending state champion (Division III) Liberty Center claimed the championship with 32 points, followed by runner-up Bowling Green (50). Leading the way for the girls for the third time this season was Rosa Mondragon in 22nd place (23:47). Cailyn Horna in 33rd and Abbie Reichert in 34th followed closely behind, with times of 25:08.1 and 25:08.3, respectively. Junior Emily Turski, a member of the girl's golf team, completed her first varsity cross country race in 46th place (29:07). Junior Jessica Zavela rounded out the scoring for the girls team with a 52nd place finish in 30:57.
The varsity boys race followed in similar fashion, with Liberty Center claiming the championship with 51 points and Bowling Green finishing in the runner-up position with 67. Tim Lynn led the boys team in his second race of the season with an 18th place finish (19:41). Freshman Nathaniel Kuhn, having raced previously in CYO at OLPH, moved up to a 27th place finish in 20:14. Senior Jake Lynn (38) and sophomore Bobby Romstadt (39) raced close to the finish together in 21:05 and 21:09, respectively. Completing the scoring for the varsity team was Nick Korducki (45; 22:34), Robert Johnson (46; 22:58) and Tyler Gawrych (50; 23:54). Several other runners also competed in the Open division for the boys team on the challenging and difficult course. Freshman Kyle Killian (24; 23:19) and Zack Matthews (28; 23:49) paced the team in this race. Also competing for the Cardinals was Casey Roberts (34; 25:46) and Humberto Teran (38; 27:24).
The Cardinal Stritch varsity cross country teams and the Kateri Catholic Academy will compete in one of the largest cross country races in the country next Saturday at the Tiffin Carnival. Races begin for the Cardinals at 9:35 AM at Hedges-Boyer Park in Tiffin, Ohio.
On Thursday, August 30th, the Kateri Catholic Academy cross country teams competed in the Flying Eagle Middle School Invitational, hosted by Eastwood High School. About 400 runners completed the 3,200 meter (2 miles) course. Andrew Flowers (Gr. 7) raced to a 7th place finish in the small school race with a time of 12:54. Andrew placed 21st overall in the boys race. Alexandrea Derrer (Gr. 8) also placed 7th in the girls small school race with a time of 14:46. Alex placed 26th overall in the girls race. Brook Jennings (Gr. 7) completed her third race of the season in 28th place in the girls small school race (16:54). Boys team champions were Maumee Gateway (large schools) and Napoleon (small schools). Girls team champions were Bowling Green (large schools) and Millbury Lake (small schools).
