Home » Girls' Basketball NewsGirls' Basketball Season Comes to an EndFebruary 27, 2012 Cardinal Stritch Catholic High SchoolThe Lady Cardinals traveled to Woodmore High School for a sectional tournament final against the Lady Panthers of Sandusky St. Mary's Central Catholic. Unfortunately for the Lady Cardinals the night was truly not theirs, as the Lady Cardinals struggled both offensively and defensively, and the Lady Panthers could do no wrong, resulting in a 67-29 defeat. The Lady Panthers converted on seven field goals from beyond the arc, and knocked down 11 of 13 free throws for the game. Despite continuing to battle the taller and talented Lady Panthers the Lady Cardinals could find no answer for St. Marys. Junior Abby Mass led the Lady Cardinals in scoring with 16 points. Senior Ally Niehaus and Sophomore Kirsten Zalewski added 4 points each. Freshman Cecelia Gozdowski and Sophomore Rosa Mondragon chipped in 2 points each. Senior Abby Moore contibuted 1 point to close out the scoring. The game marked the close of basketball careers for the Lady Cardinal seniors, Ally Niehaus, Broghan Gasser, Marisa Katafiasz, Abby Moore, and Katy Turski. Their leadership and presence will be truly missed, but thru their efforts the Lady Cardinal Basketball Program seems to be going in the right direction. The Lady Cardinals close the season at 8-13 overall, and finished TAAC action at 8-6, good for a fourth place finish in the league.
