Ten-and-under Bulldogs Cheerleader Alana Vazquez wanted to use the offseason to give back to her community. She started in school at West Bristol where she started a penny drive and raised $200 for ARF – the Animal Rescue Foundation on Main Street in Terryville. The money raised was enough to save the lives of two dogs who were living at the facility and in need of medical intention.

Alana choose to create the fundraiser for ARF because she knew there was a need to help animals in her community. “I wanted to help animals and I knew there were some real sick ones that needed help” the 9 year old said.

Alana was also recognized for her leadership qualities by her West Bristol teacher, Tina Monteleone, and chosen to be part of the Adventures of Peace Making and Diversity program. This program, offered in Bristol and Plymouth, is designed to help curb bullying, promote kind actions towards others and discusses social issues experienced by school aged children.

In April Alana is registered to walk to earn charitable donations for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society at the Walk MS 2014 in East Hartford. She signed up for the walk because her aunt was recently diagnosed with Muscular Sclerosis.

Alana’s mother, Crystal Vasquez, feels that it’s important to give back to the community, “In our family we take care of each other and support one another in our struggles and we believe that giving back to the community is equally important.”

Alana’s explanation for why she gives back to the community is simple: “there are a lot of people who need help. If I don’t help, then who will?”

Alana Vazquez will rejoin the Bristol Youth Football & Cheer cheerleader squad in July in her second year in the 10 and under Cheer Squad.
