Lady Tigers Capture First Conference Win

February 5, 2013
By Bob Rickman of Warrensburg Girls Basketball

The Lady Tigers started off hot again for a second game in a row, this time taking a 10-0 lead on Center in the first four minutes of the game.

Once difference on Tuesday night, the Lady Tigers did not let the lead slip away and picked up their first West Central Conference win with a 49-37 victory over Center.

Warrensburg grabbed the lead, and never let it go for the entire 32 minutes. The home team held a 20-10 halftime advantage over the Lady Yellowjackets.

"From start to finish there were so many positives from tonight's game," Warrensburg Coach Rickman said. "Our defensive effort was so important in getting this win. Anytime you can start with a 10-0 lead, it makes it so much easier."

The offensive pace picked up in the 2nd half with the Lady Tigers outscored Center 29-27. Taylor Geis scored 14 to lead the Lady Tigers, and Jessica Tiller and Rebekka Strahle added eight points each.

"Center is a team with so much athletism that they make the game difficult for you, we did a good job answering their runs and played with a lot of composure," Rickman said.

Warrensburg hosts O'Hara as they continue WCC play on Friday night at 5:30.
