Lady Tigers Open Clinton Tournament With a Victory

By Bob Rickman of Warrensburg Girls BasketballWarrensburg opened up the Clinton Tournament with a 47-40 victory over Sherwood on Monday night.
The Lady Tigers had three players in double figures to advance to the semifinals against Clinton on Wednesday night.
"We came out today with the intensity we have been looking for, and carried that throughout the game," WHS Coach Bob Rickman said. "Sherwood made a run at us, but our players responded to the pressure."
Taylor Geis lead the Lady Tigers with 16 points, Mackinsey Cunconan connected on a trio of three-pointers to finish with 11, and Rebekkah Strahle added 10 points.
WHS jumped out to a 16-14 lead in the first quarter. Strong defense, in the second quarter helped the Lady Tigers defense held the Lady Marksmen to seven points.
Warrensburg led 26-21 at the half. A pair of three-pointers by Cierra Collins and Cunconan helped the Lady Tigers extend their lead to 35-26 at the end of the third quarter.
Sherwood would fight back in the fourth quarter, but the Lady Tigers went to the free throw line 16 times down the stretch to improve to 5-10 on the season.
