Defense Sparks Lady Tigers Over Van Horn

January 19, 2013
By Bob Rickman of Warrensburg Girls Basketball

Warrensburg Lady Tigers jumped out to a 19-2 lead on the visiting Van Horn Lady Falcons on Friday night enroute to a 59-23 victory.

In the first quarter the Lady Tigers got scoring from six different players and used their pressure defense for the strong start against the Lady Falcons.

"We talked about playing 32 minutes of quality basketball all week, and starting out the game from the tip of playing good basketball," Lady Tigers Coach Bob Rickman said. "Tonight, we did that."

Warrensburg held a 38-17 lead at the half. Taylor Geis scored 13 in the first half and finished with 23 on the night, while Rebekka Strahle scored 12 in the first half, and finished with 16.

"I am really pleased with the week of practice we had, the loss to St. Pius was a tough setback last Friday," Rickman said. "But our girls responded well, and this can be a game that has a positive carryover for the rest of the season.

The Lady Tigers improved to 4-10, and head into the Clinton Tournament to face Sherwood at 4:30 on Monday.
