Getting Ready To Rumble

The Kearney High School wrestlers have been hard at work preparing for the 2012-2013 season. They have their eyes on defending their state title. 

During this preparation several Kearney wrestlers took part in a couple of high profile tournaments over the weekend.   

Fall Brawl at Staley High School

Seth Brayfield - 3rd Place at 126 and avenging his only loss of the tourney on his way to 3rd. Went 7-1 on the weekend.

Kevin Kinney - 2nd Place at 145, in Kinney's first action since undergoing knee surgery in July. He won five straight matches before falling 1-0 in the finals against multiple time State Champion Phil Downing from Colorado. In the semifinal, Kinney defeated Kenny Martin from Nebraska (A national finalist and a wrestler that Kevin had never beaten).

Tyler Horton 4th Place at 220.

Super 32 in Greensboro North Carolina

Grant Leeth - Super 32 champion - He won 7 straight matches on his way to becoming the 1st Missouri Wrestler to ever win this tournament.  And according to records, he is only the third wrestler to ever make the finals from Missouri.  He defeated the number 5 Ranked wrestler in the nation in the finals and finished ahead of the 10th ranked wrestler in the country. 

Jaret Singh - Two-time high school state champ also competed in the 180 man weight class.  He fiinished 2-2.
