Some of the top talent in Classes 3 and 4 converged on Kearney Thursday for the Kearney Classic. The field of 15 created some outstanding performances.

The competition helped several Kearney athletes turn in their best performances for the season.

On the girls  side, the 4x800-meter relay team of Olivia Franklin, Maiya Wolpert, Jasmine Edwards, and Oliviah Sloan ran a season best on 10 minutes, 3.42 seconds. That earned the team second place.

Franklin would later go head to head with Rock Bridge’s Kayla Funkenbusch in the 3,200-meter run. Franklin and Funkenbush ran shoulder-to-shoulder through 8 laps. Franklin would eventually finish second in 11:21.2. That is her personal best and is just four seconds off the school record.

The girls 4x400 relay of Sloan, Mackenzie Altvater, Edwards, and Sabrina King finished third to earn a medal.

Medaling on the boys side were Connor Stark and Aaron Stephens.

Stark finished fourth in the 1,600 with a personal best of 4:36.37. He took third in the 3,200.

Stephens ran a personal best of 41.44 to take second in the 300-meter hurdles.
