Matt Wisler, Bryan's former starting pitcher is going pro. Wisler was drafted in the seventh round in the MLB Draft back in June by the San Diego Padres. Wisler has chosen to forgo a scholarship to Ohio State University, and has finally signed a professional contract.

Wisler has joined the Arizona Padres of the Arizona Rookie League.

“It feels pretty good to know that now I can just focus on starting my career,” Wisler told the Bryan Times.

“Anxious, nervous, excited for it all, just to get out there and start on it.”

Wisler could see his first start with the Arizona Padres as early as Friday, pending a physical.

Wisler becomes the third former Bryan player in pro baseball, joining Chris Carpenter and Kolbrin Vitek.
