Lady Bears Come Up Short
August 18, 2014, Bryan -- The Bryan Girls Tennis Team hosted Huron in the first round of the OTCA state team tournament Monday night and came up just short of advancing to the next round.
Two comebacks by Bryan players nearly gave the Lady Bears a victory but Huron snuffed out both attempts for a 3-2 win.
Huron swept all three singles matches for the team win. Delaney Black took the first singles match against Bryan's Mikayla Borland in a solid 6-2, 6-2 victory. At second singles, Bryan's Trista Savage nearly pulled off an amazing comeback against her opponent reeling off 5 straight games in the second set before falling to Huron's Elizabeth Mills in the tie-breaker.
The Lady Bears had a shot at third singles as well as Kendra Wheeler dropped the first set before storming back in the second set to send the match to a decisive third set. However, Huron's Colleen Allen prevailed to give the Lady Tigers the victory.
Bryan fared well in both doubles matches. At first doubles, AJ Breneman and Elizabeth Hoene swept their opponents in straight sets 6-0, 6-2. At second doubles, the Lady Bears tandem of Elizabeth Huard and Morgan Bauer followed suit with a 6-1, 6-3 win of their own.
At JV, Mariah Stambaugh won her match.
