Vincent Ends Postseason Run
May 21, 2014, Perrysburg -- Derek Vincent's postseason run came to an end on Wednesday. The Bryan senior nearly pulled out an upset over #2 seeded Phil Zitko from St. Peter's, but in the end it was Zitko who moved on.
Vincent and Zitko were neck and neck the entire first set, and the pair would need a tie-break to settle things as the match remained tied at 6-6. Vincent had an opportunity to capture the first set but let a match point slip away. Zitko capitalized with three straight points to take the first set tie-breaker 7-6 (8-6).
Zitko used the momentum from the first set to his advantage as he took the second set by a score of 6-3 and ended Vincent's season.
Vincent ended the season with 15 wins including a doubles title at the NW Ohio Doubles Invitational. The Bryan Boys team tied a school record for wins in a season at 15. The last, and only, time a boys team reached 15 wins was in 1987.
