HSWR NWOAL Tournament Results

February 3, 2014

The wrestling team traveled to Evergreen yesterday for the NWOAL tournament. Heading into the tournament our goal was to finish top 4 as a team, anything less would be a disappointment.
Despite a slow start, our guys regrouped and we came away with a 4th place finish. Winning the team title was the Delta Panthers. Overall we must do a better job of getting off to a better start. As we prepare for Sectionals and so on, we must get off to a great start and stay on the winner's side as long as possible. We also need to help ourselves out and continue to do the little things right while also finishing off matches. There were times where we did not wrestle for all 6 minutes. However, we are proud of our guys for bouncing back and taking care of business. We only brought 10 guys with us and we had 8 placers. Heading in, we thought it was important for our guys that were expected to place, to place, and for those who were flying under the radar to win some matches and hopefully place. We feel we accomplished that. We had a couple guys who have been struggling get some big wins and place for us. That is definitely a sign of improvement.
Leading the way for us was Brock Nagel at 170. Brock finished as league runner-up, losing to Aaron Schuette of Wauseon. Others placing for us were, Braden Hahn 4th @ 120, Austin Owens 5th @ 126, Brett Driscoll 5th @ 138, Antonio Ramos 3rd @ 145, Gavin Saul 4th @ 182, Bronson Beck 3rd @ 220, and Christian Riddle 6th @ HWT.
We have two matches this coming week, Tuesday @ Defiance and a make up league quad at Evergreen. This will be a good tune up and keep the guys focused as we prepare for Sectionals. This is the point in the season where things get fun and everything we have done up to this point will hopefully get us ready for the stretch run.
