Results from Delta Quad

January 24, 2014
Bryan High School

The Bryan wrestling team traveled to Delta last night in a league quad against Liberty Center. In both matches we lost 35-21 to Liberty Center and 78-3 to Delta. Coming into the event we wanted to rebound from the night before when we lost to Napoleon. We wanted to take that step forward and gain the some respect in the league. However, despite not having a full line up, we felt our guys came out flat and got out wrestled by a decent Liberty Center team. Prior to the match we felt this was a dual we had to win. We are still learning to win and finish matches, we let a couple matches slip away from us after having the lead. Again, if we want to be considered a competitive team and respected, we must finish out matches and help ourselves out.

In our second match with Delta, we knew what we were in for. Our goal was to wrestle to the best of our ability and come away injury free. Delta is a very solid team. One of the best teams we have seen top to bottom. Despite the score, I thought our guys wrestled tough. Our lone winner in this match was Brock Nagel. Brock looked very solid in his match as we won by major decision and improved his record to 31-2 on the year.

Winning for us on the evening were Austin Owens @ 126 (1-1), Brock Nagel @ 170  (2-0), Zach Williams @ 220 (1-0 varsity), and Bronson Beck @ 220 and HWT (1-1). As a team we need to sure some things up and start peaking at the right time. Some of our guys need to get their confidence back, and others need to start finishing matches and getting those close wins. As we continue to get guys back from injuries and back into match shape, we will be much better. We have a quick turn around with a make up match at Evergreen on Tuesday 1/28/14 and our only home match of the season on Thursday 1/30/14again Wauseon and Archbold before heading back to Evergreen on Saturday for our League tournament.
