Wrestlers Split in NWOAL Quad; Beat PH

December 20, 2013

The golden bears traveled to Patrick Henry this evening for our first league quad of the season. Overall we split the quad losing 41-39 to Montpelier, and beating the host team, PH, 40-35. In our first dual with Montpelier, we started off like we wrestled at Waite last week. Despite giving up a few weight classes to forfeits, we had some costly losses by pins. Overall we wrestled better and had several guys fighting hard. One win in particular that stood out, was Adam Herold. Adam is a freshman, and is only competing in his 2nd year. For him to step up and wrestle when we had an opening at 160, says a lot about his potential. He is truly going to be a great addition to our team. He got a big pin for us and gave us a chance to win as a team.

In our last dual of the night, we had several guys who stepped it up and help get our first team win of the season. Brett Driscoll at 138, bounced back from a tough loss against Montpelier and earned a major decision over Chase Shank. Brett is only wrestling in his 3rd season, but has shown great strides over the last 3 years. As he continues to develop, he will be a great asset for us. Going 2-0 for us on the evening were Braden Hahn at 132, Antonio Ramos @ 152, Brock Nagel @ 170, Gavin Saul @ 182, and Bronson Beck at 220. Others getting wins were, Reno Smith @ 126 and Zach Phillips @ HWT. We are continuing to get better and working to peak at the right time. Our league is very tough and we must be on top of our game in order to win and have success.
We are off until January 3rd and 4th, when we travel to Mansfield Senior for the 52nd annual JC Gorman Invite. Our JV's are in action this Saturday at Home for the Golden Bear Invitational and will travel to Montpelier on December 28th for their Invitational.
