John Fryman, NWOAL Publicist

Bryan and Liberty Center will be defending their boys and girls cross country titles respectively as the Northwest Ohio Athletic League Cross Country Championships takes place at Evergreen High School on Saturday, October 12.

The Golden Bears who are ranked 20th in the latest Ohio High School Cross Country Coaches Association Division II state poll captured last year's league meet with 57 points while Delta was a close runner-up with 63 points.

Coach Kurt Plouck's squad will be seeking its 21st NWOAL title in school history.  They are led by Jacob Will who was a first team all-league performer a year ago along with second team performer Evan Morr and a pair of honorable mention runners in Brandon Krupp and Michael Sheridan.

Expected to battle Bryan for the top spot is Liberty Center as the Tigers are currently ranked ninth in the latest Division III state poll.  The Tigers are led by first team all-league performer Cameron Weaks along with honorable mention runner Kyle Nash.

Wauseon's Quintin Reiser returns to defend his individual league title from last year's meet. Reiser prevailed with a time of 16:17 to capture top honors while teammate Wade Hodges was fourth overall a year ago.

Two-time Division III state champion Liberty Center is the favorite to claim its fifth consecutive NWOAL championship as the Tigers who are ranked No. 2 in the latest Division III state poll will be challenged by Div. II state ranked Wauseon who is rated 15th in the latest poll.

Brittany Atkinson of Liberty Center is the defending individual champion as the junior standout will be seeking her third consecutive individual title, but will get a strong test from Wauseon junior Taylor Vernot who finished runner-up behind Atkinson in last year's NWOAL Meet.

Other first team runners returning include Olivia Kundo, Paige Chamberlain and Rachel Pinson of Liberty Center along with Aneesa Volkman of Wauseon.

The girls varsity race will get underway at 10 a.m. followed by the boys race at 10:45 a.m.

Following the presentation of league awards, the junior high boys and girls league championships will take place around 11:30 a.m.
