Bryan Defeats Defiance, Ties Record
September 23, 2013, Defiance -- Due to scheduling changes and weather cancellations, it had been nearly 10 days since the Lady Bears had played their last match. However, good things come to those that wait as the Bryan Girls Tennis Team tied the school record for most wins in a season at 16 by defeating the Lady Bulldogs of Defiance 5-0 on Monday.
The final score didn't reflect how close the match was for Bryan. At second doubles, it took a first set tie-break and a 6-3 second set win before Kendra Wheeler and Trista Savage secured the victory. At first doubles, the Bryan tandem of Jessica Wittler and Mikayla Borland battled back from deficits before clinching a 6-4, 6-4 win.
Bryan's Megan Steel was never in trouble at third singles as she defeated her opponent 6-3, 6-1, and after being down 3-0, Tiffany Short shut down the Lady Bulldogs at second singles by winning 12 of her final 13 games in a 6-4, 6-0 victory.
Linda McDonagh gave the Lady Bears the sweep with a solid 6-2, 6-3 win at first singles against Defiance's top player and #4 overall seed at the upcoming Sectional Tournament.
Elizabeth Huard, Elizabeth Hoene, Mariah Stambaugh, AJ Breneman, Megan Plessner, and Kim Roberts all won at JV for the Lady Bears.
