Bryan Beats Napoleon, Now 8-0
August 26, 2013, Bryan -- The last time the Bryan Girls Tennis Team beat Napoleon, Bryan's youngest varsity player was not even born yet. It's been 15 years, but the Lady Bears finally put an end to Napoleon's domination in the series by beating the Lady Wildcats 3-2.
Napoleon was on the board early and often as it appeared it would be business as usual for the Wildcats. But Bryan's Linda McDonagh reeled off seven of the next 10 games at first singles to erase an early 3-0 deficit to take the first set 7-6 (7-5) in a thrilling tie-break. McDonagh used the moment to close out her match by winning the second set 6-2.
At doubles, Bryan and Napoleon traded games and even sets, but the Lady Wildcats pulled out a 6-1, 6-4 victory at first doubles and a 6-2, 4-6, 7-5 win at second doubles to put them in a position for the win.
But Bryan would not be denied. At third singles Megan Steel gutted out a straight set victory after falling behind early clinching a 6-3, 7-5 win. Then at second singles it was Tiffany Short who put Bryan over the top with a dominating performance as she closed out her match 6-1, 6-0.
With all three singles matches going Bryan's way, the Lady Bears finally ended their 15-year drought against Napoleon.
At JV, AJ Breneman and Kim Roberts were winners.
