Bryan Advances in State Tournament
August 20, 2013Bryan High School
The Bryan Girls Tennis Team accomplished two things with their win on Monday. They extended their winning streak to 5-0 and advanced to the second round of the State Team Tournament by defeating Huron 5-0. With the win, the Girls Tennis Team is off to the best start in the 27-year history of the program.
In singles, Bryan's Linda McDonagh, Tiffany Short, and Megan Steel swept their opponents in straight sets.
The Lady Bears needed comeback wins at both doubles slots as Bryan's first doubles tandem of Jessica Wittler and Mikayla Borland won a tough first set 6-4 before falling 2-6 in the second. But the Bryan duo fought back in the third to pick up the win at 6-3.
At second doubles, Bryan's Trista Savage and Kendra Wheeler were down 5-1 in the first set, but they reeled off 6 straight games to capture a first set win at 7-5 before shutting the door on their opponents in the second set 6-2.
At JV, Elizabeth Hoene, Elizabeth Huard, and Mariah Stambaugh were all winners.
