On a night where the five Bryan Lady Bears seniors were honored for their contributions, the emotion of the pre-game ceremony was never matched on court during their contest against the Lady Cats from Napoleon. The Cats won all four quarters, prevailing 47-32 in the final home game of the girls' 2012-13 season.
The touching pre-game tribute to the five Lady Bears seniors - gifts and balloons, with comedy, tears and applause - was short-lived once the game tipped off. Napoleon jumped out to an early lead that they would never relinquish, going up 21-13 at the half.
The night belonged to Sophmore Kayla Gerken, who led all scorers with 22 points on 9/14 shooting. Sydney Lawson and Courtney Smith contributed 10 points each for the Lady Cats.
The Lady Bears were paced by Hannah Schimmoeller, who scored 17 points on 7/15 shooting. MaKayla Dennis added 12 points, before leaving the game in the 4th Quarter with an apparent arm injury, diving for a loose ball.
For the game, Napoleon shot 18/39 from the floor (46%), including 4/12 (33%) from 3-pt range. They also converted 7/14 (50%) on their free throws, and outrebounded the Bears 17-13. Bryan shot 12/31 (39%) from the floor, but were 0/5 from behind the 3-pt line. They shot 8/12 (67%) from the free throw line, and doubled up the Cats on turnovers (14 to 7).
Fortunately for the Lady Bears, they won't have to wait long to seek revenge. The girls OHSAA tournament draw has been announced, and Bryan will get their rematch with Napoleon on February 20 (7pm) at Hicksville Hig hSchool. The GBSN will be there to cover the game - audio stream live, and full audio-video TV replays on BMU TV 3.
The Bill's Locker Room III / BryanSports.com players of the game were the five Lady Bears seniors: MaKayla Dennis, Katie Roushia, Paige Taylor, Lydia Snavely, and Jaclyn Hollin.
