The Bryan Lady Bears only had 5 players score in Thursday's conference clash with the Swanton Lady Bulldogs, but it was more than enough, as they posted a 47-29 victory at BHS tonight. The game was ultimately decided by Bryan's ability to sink the three-ball.
On this very cold last day of January, Bryan heated up the gym with a dominant first half performance, outscoring Swanton 29-16 at the half. Coach Eric Stantz's Lady Bears have put together two consecutive solid games this week, and earned a much-needed NWOAL victory on their home court.
For the visiting Lady Bulldogs, they had decent scoring distribution, but their key players were held in check tonight. Bethann Lumbreezer led with 8 points on 2/9 shooting, while Megyn Christensen (7 pts.) and Jessica Gilsdorf (6 pts.) chipped in for Swanton.
The Bears had three players in double figures, with MaKayla Dennis and Alexa Brown pouring in 12 points apiece. The GBSN/Bill's Locker Room III Player of the Game was Hannah Schimmoeller, who had a game-high 17 points on 6/10 shooting. The Bears were without Katie Roushia and Paige Taylor, who sat out with injuries.
For the game, Bryan shot 17/37 FG, including 7/16 3-pt shots. Swanton was 11/46 from the floor, but only 1/12 from 3-pt range. Both teams were at about 50% from the FT line (6 makes each), and both teams pulled down 20 rebounds.
With the victory, Bryan improves to 11-8 overall (3-4 NWOAL), while Swanton drops to 9-9 (3-5 NWOAL). Catch TV rebroadcasts on BMU channel 3, and stay connected to all BHS winter sports on bryansports.com - your home for Bryan Golden Bears athletics.
