Bryan survives Delta in OT
January 25, 2013Bryan High School
Four quarters was not enough for two of the NWOAL's best boys basketball teams. Bryan and Delta battled for four quarters plus, before the Bears finally pulled out a heart-stopping 52-50 victory of the visiting Delta Panthers.
On a night where the Bryan cross-country and football teams were honored, and the memory of Coach Corey Sprow was held firm in everyone's hearts, both teams left it all on the court in this conference battle.
Delta held a slim 18-17 lead at halftime, and the teams drew even in the 4th quarter. Two free throws by Jordan Spiess late in overtime were the difference, as Delta used up the remaining seconds on missed shots and putbacks, dropping one at the buzzer to make the final score 52-50.
Delta's Scott Garlinger was the game's leading scorer with 19 points, playing a team-high 35 minutes. The GBSN/Bill's Locker Room III player of the game Thomas Martin poured in 15 points before fouling out late in the 4th quarter. His brother Austin chipped in with 12 for the Bears.
Bryan goes to 8-7 overall with the win, and 5-0 in the NWOAL. Delta falls to 10-6 overall, 3-1 in the conference. The Bears boys team travels to Hicksville Saturday night for a non-league game, and the GBSN will bring you the coverage starting at about 7:15pm.
