From Head Coach Josh Montgomery:

The varsity wrestling team traveled to Napoleon this weekend for the Gold Medal Duals.

Overall we finished with a record of 7-2 and placed 3rd as a team. Going 9-0 for us were Shelden Struble and Wes Walter. Going 8-1 was Justen Shepherd; finishing 7-2 for the weekend were Bronson Beck and Skyler Nagel. Sam Breneman and Brock Nagel finished 6-3. Others winning were Austin Owens, Rian Green, Antonio Ramos, Gavin Saul, and Chance Taylor.

This weekend was a great opportunity to improve after the way we competed on Thursday in our league quad. A lot of our guys were able to come through for us to obtain big wins that helped win as a team. Rian Green @126, Sam Breneman who bumped up to wrestle 145, and Brock Nagel, all had huge wins against solid opponents that led to us winning as a team.

As a staff, we are extremely proud of our guys and believe they showed how we are capable of wrestling and competing. We told them this tournament was another opportunity to win close matches and win ones that we are expected to win. We all stepped up and did our job. We can't expect anything more. HIghlights of the weekend were beating two solid teams in Napoleon and Defiance, then beating Bay Village for 3rd place. Even in our losses, our guys really stepped up.

Our next match is Wednesday at Toledo Central Catholic, where we will wrestle Defiance @ 6pm. Then on Thursday, we wrestle at home against Wauseon and Patrick Henry. Wrestling on Thursday begins at 6 as well.
