The Bryan Golden Bears had a rough go shooting the ball and lost to Maumee 50-40 on Saturday night at Bryan High School. Bryan missed the first six shots of the game and was behind by as many as 13 points in the first half. Maumee led 28-17 at the half. Bryan got within four early in the fourth quarter, but the Bears couldn't ever take a lead and Maumee won by 10.
The Bears shot just 15 of 48 from the floor (31%) and went 3 for 14 from 3 point land (21%) and 64% from the charity stripe. For Bryan, Austin Schimmoeller led the team with eight points. Thomas Martin added seven points and nine rebounds Sean Culler finished with seven points, and Austin Martin added six points off the bench for the Bears.
Culler was named the GBSN/Bills Locker Room III Player of the Game.
Bryan travels to Montpelier on Friday for an NWOAL game. The Bears are 3-0 in the league, currently tied with Wauseon.
Bryan defeated Patrick Henry 56-42 Friday night, remaining perfect in the Northwest Ohio Athletic League at 3-0.
The Bears and Patriots traded hoops throughout the first half, but Bryan went on a 8-0 run to build a 12 point lead. The run included two Jordan Spiess 3-pointers over a span of 10 seconds. After thre quarters, the Bears led 50-31 and never looked back.
Juniors Jason Hug and Austin Schimmoeller scored in double figures with 13 points each. Spiess finished with eight, while Thomas Martin and Sean Culler each chipped in seven. Bryan finished 22 of 51 shooting (43%), and shot 57% from the line. They had only seven turnovers, to the Patriots' 17.
Jason Hug was named the GBSN/Bills Locker Room III Player of the Game.
