Girls tennis defeats Shawnee 3-0

September 23, 2012
Bryan High School

The Bryan Girls Tennis Team defeated Lima Shawnee on Saturday 3-0 in a rain-shortened match.  With the win, the Lady Bears are now 11 - 6 on the season.

At first singles, Bryan's Linda McDonagh continued her excellent season by defeating one of the best players in the WBL.  McDonagh took the first set 6-0 before her opponent dialed it in and extended the second set into a tie-breaker.  McDonagh turned away the attempted comeback and won the tie-break 7-2 to take the win and extend her record to 13-5 on the season.

At first doubles, Cassie Lawson and Ali Saneda pounced on the Lady Indians.  After the Lady Bears tandem got off to a slow start, they turned up the heat on their opponents as they won 10 of the last 13 games to take the match in straight sets 6-3, 6-2.

"Cassie and Ali probably played one of the best matches they've played all season," said Bryan Tennis Coach Mitchell Owens.  "After being down 3-2 in the first set, they played lights out the rest of the way."

At third singles, Bryan's Megan Steel got off to a quick start jumping out to a 4-1 lead before fending off a comeback by her opponent.  Steel pulled out the first set 7-5 and went on to win her match to give the Lady Bears the victory.

There were no JV matches due to rain.
