Home » Football NewsBears beat Delta, 47-3September 10, 2012 By Chris Malanga of Bryan High SchoolWell, it took nearly 24 hours, but the Bryan Golden Bears defeated Delta on the road 47-3. After lightning stopped the game on Friday night with 51 seconds to play, the Bears finished things off on Saturday night. The Bears got off to a slow start, with their first two drives ending on downs, and the third ending with a fumble. Delta went three-and-out on its first two drives, but scored on a Shelton Lillich field goal on drive #3. That would be the only lead of the game for Delta. It took until midway through the second quarter for the Bears to heat up. Bryan started its fourth drive of the game on their own 8 yard line. In 3:16, Bryan went 92-yards for the game's first touchdown, a 7-yard run by Austin Schimmoeller. The point after by Tory Savage was good, and the Bears led 7-3. Delta again went three-and-out and the Bears took over on their own 43. They went 57 yards in just five plays, scoring on a 5-yard touchdown pass from Schimmoeller to Elijah Bogosian. Savage missed the PAT and the Bears led 13-3. That drive for the Bears took only 31 seconds to complete. The Panthers got the opening kickoff, and appeared headed for a three-and-out once again, but on the punt, Bryan missed the ball and got the kicker instead, and a roughing the kicker penalty extended the drive. Eight plays later, Detla attempted a field goal to end the half, but was unsuccessful. The second half started in the same way for Delta - a three-and-out. After a poor punt and good return by the Bears, they started on the Delta 16. Two plays later, Collin Bacon scored on a 9-yard touchdown run. Savage missed the PAT and the Bears led 19-3. Delta's next drive looked promising, but on the sixth play, Micah Mohr three an interception that Brandon Poncsak returned for big yardage. However, a block in the back penalty backed Bryan up to their own 35. The Bears went 65 yards in under a minute, with Bacon scoring on the fourth play of the drive, a 5-yard touchdown run. Schimmoeller hit Culler for the two point conversion, and the Bears led 2-7. Delta went three-and-out on their ensuing drive. Bryan got the ball back on Delta's 23 yard line, and after a first down incompletion, Austin Schimmoeller took off for a 23-yard touchdown return. Savage hit the extra point, and the score was 34-3. It was during Delta's next drive that the lightning began. After a 45 minute delay, it was determined that the two teams would start again on Saturday. At this point, there were 51 seconds remaining in the third quarter, with Bryan leading 34-3. Saturday's game began with a Delta punt. Bryan got the ball back at the Delta 45 yard line, and teo play later, Schimmoeller took in in from 14 yards out for the touchdown. The PAT was good, and the Bears lead was extended to 41-3. Delta got the kickoff and went on an 8-play drive, turning it over on downs on the Bryan 20. The Bears went on a 9-play, 80 yard drive that took 3:53 off the clock. Schimmoeller went in for his fourth rushing touchdown of the day, an 8-yard scamper. The PAT was again good, and the Bears led 47-3. Micah Mohr ended the Panthers next drive by throwing his second interception. The Bears got the ball at their 39 and basically ran out the clock. The final score was Bryan 47-Delta 3. The GBSN/Bills Locker Room III Player of the Game was Austin Schimmoeller, who finished 21-27 for 250 yards passing, 1 TD and no INTs. He also rushed for 85 yards and four scores. The Oberlin-Turnbull Game Changing Moment was Kevin Kline's halftime speech, which rallied the Bears to play much better in the second half. The Golden Bears play host to Shelby, next Saturday at 6:00 PM at Golden Bear Stadium. You can watch it LIVE on BryanSports.com and BMU Channel 3, or listen in on AM 1520 WQCT.
