Home » Wrestling NewsBears wrestlers face Delta and WauseonJanuary 6, 2012 By Chris Malanga of Bryan High SchoolFrom Coach Josh Montgomery:
Last night, we traveled to Delta for a League Quad with Delta and Wauseon. In both matches we came on the losing end. Against Delta we lost 44-21, winning matches for us were Arron Pease at 170 and Bronson Beck at 220. Also winning by forfeit was Zach Phillips at 195 and Blake Yunker @ HWT. In the match against Wauseon we were held winless. Some positives from the night were despite not winning matches against Wauseon I felt we wrestled better in some of the matches. We wrestled them earlier in the year and gave up several pins. It was nice to see our guys fight off their back. When giving up forfeits we have told our guys that we need to avoid pins and I felt we did that at times. Overall we are a young team and our younger guys are continuing to learn and grow and become better wrestlers. They are taking their bumps but are finding ways to bounce back. Our upperclassmen need to learn how to win those close contested matches. We have been in some close matches and have been in situations that would help us prevail. We need to learn to finish our shots when we get in deep on takedowns. We need that continuous movement that will get us points. Some of them have lofty goals and need to step it up and become the leaders they are expected to be for the underclassmen. Some of the matches we lost tonight are those typical "go to" matches that will get us over the hump and extend our post-season. Ultimately our goal is to contend and compete for league and make a run at state. We need to continue to pick it up in the practice room and push ourselves and each other to get better so we can meet our goals at the end of the season. We have a short week next week, we wrestle in another league quad at Evergreen with Liberty Center and then travel to the always tough Marion Elgin tournament at the fairgrounds in Marion.
