CUNYAC/Applebees Male Athlete of the Week
Richard Bethea, Bronx
CC Baseball/First Base/Sophomore/Captain/Bronx, NY/Harry S. Truman
Richard Bethea has been named the CUNYAC/Applebee’s Male Athlete of the Week for the week of 3/18 – 3/24. The captain had an outstanding week for the Broncos in which he went 8-for-13, a .615 batting average. The sophomore also recorded seven RBI’s, three runs scored, and four stolen bases. The first baseman is now hitting .458 (11-for-24) for the season. Bronx went 4-1 for the week to improve its overall record to 6-3.
CUNYAC/Applebee’s Female Athlete of the Week
Naomi Hines, Bronx
Outdoor Track & Field/Sophomore/Captain/Mount Vernon, NY/Mount Vernon
Naomi Hines has been named the CUNYAC/Applebee’s Female Athlete of the Week for the week of 3/18 – 3/24. The All-American competed in the Richard Stockton Invitational and placed fifth out of 20 total participants in the hammer throw event. With a throw of 43.52 meters, the captain qualified for the national event.
CUNYAC/Applebee’s Rookie of the Week
Eric Valdez, Bronx
CC Baseball/Pitcher/Freshman/New York, NY/Intech Academy
Eric Valdez has been named the CUNYAC/Applebee’s Rookie of the Week for the week of 3/18 – 3/24. The freshman pitched a masterpiece against Union, throwing 6.0 innings, allowing five hits and three runs (two earned), while striking out three and walking just one batter. The New York native earned the victory to pick up the team’s fourth win of the week.
