2012 CUNYAC/US Army Indoor Track and Field Championships
March 1, 2012By Warren Thompson of BRONX COMMUNITY COLLEGE
Bronx Community College had a momentous night at the 2012 CUNYAC/US Army Indoor Track and Field Championship at the New Balance Track and Field Center aka the Armory. Once again, BCC seized the majority of the number 1 spots in the field events with performances from BCC that will be talked about for years to come.
Three Community Colleges were in full force once again in the 2012 CUNY Athletic Conference / U.S. Army Track & Field Championship at the New Balance Track & Field Center. In team competition, Queensborough Community College swept both the men’s and women’s titles with Kingsborough CC taking both second places, followed by Bronx CC. Men’s team scoring on the junior circuit was 146 points for QCC, followed by 96 for KCC and 30 for Bronx CC. For the women’s teams it went 117 points for QCC, 80 for KCC and 20 for BCC.
Bronx continued to have the strongest performances in field events, as PIERRE FRANCIOS crushed the field in the Men’s Triple Jump (14.22m) and was second amongst all men’s competitors in the Long Jump (6.38m). ADAMU MENDE tied for the overall gold in the Men’s High Jump (1.84m). But the Broncos are best known for their throwers, coached by Assistant Coach Ed Howard, BCC new prodigy, NAOMI HINDS won both indoor throwing event golds. She took the top spot in the Women’s SHOT PUT (11.66m) and demolished Howard’s daughter Danielle’s (Lehman College) CUNYAC mark of 13.80 meters with a hurl of 16.35 meters in the Weight Throw. That mark will put her among the elite in the NJCAA rankings.
Congratulations to every participant and good luck to you Naomi at the NJCAA Championship in Illinois.
