Players who wish to get noticed by college programs should;
- Have a frank discussion with a coach- ability, needs, positions, interests, strengths, weaknesses,etc.-
- Create a high school athletic profile (see sample)-
- Email or mail a cover letter w/ profile attached to schools of interest-
- Create a tape consisting of 12-15 best plays + 2 complete games (best)- coaches can help with this- (bring blank tapes/DVDs for game copies)-
- Take the ACT (or SAT) exam 2-3 times to maximize score/aid-
- Attend 2-3 summer day camps at colleges they are interested in-
- Work as hard as possible to improve academics, strength, speed, nutrition, agility, knowledge of assignments, and team commitment up until the season begins-
- Play with intensity, class, and relentlessness in season-
- Respond quickly to all college coaches' emails or phone calls-
- Visit any colleges interested on Saturdays or college days-
- Submit applications to 1-2 colleges that you are interested in attending even if you don't play football (in case of injury or other probs)- before November 1st-
- If you intend to play at Division 1 or 2 level, submit NCAA Clearinghouse form (http://www.ncaaclearinghouse.net/) during the fall of senior year and request an official transcript be sent also (Guidance Center)-
- Be courteous and respectful to other NIC10 varsity coaches (most college coaches will get input from opponents coaches on scholarship potential athletes)
- File FAFSA in late January or February as soon as possible in order to get back Student Award Reports from colleges...this will help clarify financial picture and assist in decision-making-
- Apply for all non-designated (any college) scholarships to which you qualify (academic merit, financial need, ethnic, career, etc.)-
- Send 8th semester transcript to chosen college and NCAA Clearinghouse-
