HOMECOMING 2009 ... Boylan vs. Belvidere - The Tradition Continues.

October 9, 2009
Boylan Catholic Broadcasting

It was 1994,  an overflow crowd (estimated at 10,000)  filled Titan Stadium.  Those who couldn’t find a seat stood three deep around the perimeter of the football field.  A local TV station brought “live” coverage of the game into the living rooms of northern Illinois homes.  It was  #1 Boylan Catholic vs. #2 Belvidere.  Hall of Fame coaches, Bill Thumm (Boylan) and Verne Pottinger (Belvidere), watched as their teams battled furiously for four quarters. Our Titans  (Charlie Newman) blocked a last second field goal attempt to claim the victory (14-13) and hold on to their #1 ranking.  Echoes of the names of Marc Bliven, Johnny Hernandez, Luke Thumm still resonate off the quarry that sits on the west side of the football field.

Tonight,  the rivalry continues as #7 Boylan takes on Belvidere.  Head Coach Dan Appino leads a Titan squad that has won 35 conference games in a row and is ranked #6 in the latest Associated Press Poll.  Boylan can solidify a playoff birth with a win tonight.

If you cannot attend tonight check out our “live” broadcast on iHigh TV!
