The Boonville Boys’ Basketball team faced the Fulton Hornets on January 16 in the semifinals of the California Invitational Tournament. The previous weekend, Boonville defeated the Hornets 78-69, but the tables had turned, losing this week 50-46. This gives the team a 2-9 record for the 2014 season.
Head coach Scott Floyd said the team didn’t come with a lot of energy. “Points were hard to come by for both teams but we particularly struggled shooting the ball in the second half,” said Floyd. “When we share the ball as a team we are pretty good. but we went away from our strength tonight and that is disappointing. We can score the ball, but we simply did not put ourselves in a position to do that tonight.”
Boonville had the lead at halftime, with a score of 27-21. The Pirates finished the night with 35% shooting from the field. Boonville sophomore T’avious Brazil ended the game with 18 points, 12 rebounds, 8 blocked shots, 2 steals, and 1 assist. Junior Clayton Lang had 11 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals. Senior Tyler Peterson had 8 points, 7 rebounds, and 2 assists.
The Boonville Boys’ Basketball team will take to the court again on January 31 at Southern Boone.
