Last second TD puts Boonville ahead of Fulton
October 23, 2013By Lisa Moody of Boonville High School
The Boonville High School football team traveled to Fulton on October 11. The Pirates were hoping to upset the Hornets on their Homecoming night, and the game did not disappoint.
The game seemed like it would be relatively low scoring after the score was 14-10 in favor of the Pirates at halftime. Scoring definitely picked up heading to the second half, touchdown after touchdown was scored, and the other team answered. Boonville was down 36 - 39 with 4 seconds left on the clock, and senior Jacob Francis throws a last second desperation pass down in the endzone. The pass was captured by junior Austin Hulbert, putting Boonville ahead with no time left, making the final score 42 - 39.
Sophomore Jordan Weaver rushed 12 times for 143 yards, one of those for a touchdown. Senior Dakota Meyer rushed 12 times for 47 yards, one also for a touchdown. Senior Tyler Peterson led the team with 11 tackles for the duration of the game. Senior Jacob Francis completed 19 of 31 passes attempted for 297 yards and 4 touchdowns. His longest pass was 53 yards to Hulbert, which was the game winner. Senior Nolan Murray and senior Brett Kenney each had one sack, making the Hornets lose a total of five yards on plays ending with a sack.
The Boonville Pirates next matchup will be on Friday, October 18, against the Moberly Spartans.
