Home » Boys' Soccer NewsBombers take second losses from Cardinals and Patriots but bring home win from VikingsSeptember 5, 2012 By Kelly Paul of Ballard Memorial High SchoolBombers take second losses from Cardinals and Patriots but bring home win from Vikings Ballard Memorial met up with the Mayfield Cardinals for the second time this season on August 27, but they still weren’t able to take the win over the Cardinals. The game ended with the Bombers losing 5-10. Although the Bombers lost for the second time against Mayfield, this game was certainly not the same as the first go around. The difference this time was that the Bombers were coming together as a team and working together on the field. Junior Forward/midfielder Clayton Walker scored 2 goals with assists by Sophomore midfielder Evan Lawrence and Sophomore fullback Colton Tremblay. Sophomore midfielder Brennan “Bubba” Neeley also scored a goal with an assist by Clayton Walker. During the first half of the game, Clayton Walker took a corner kick that soared up and over the Cardinals’ goalkeeper right into the upper corner of the goal to claim points for the Bombers and boost the teams’ confidence. Sophomore fullback/midfielder Michael Waldon also scored a goal unassisted for the Bombers. Although the Bombers did not win against the Cardinals, they showed what a difference communication on the field makes. Their second time around with Mayfield had the Bombers with a loss at 5-10. Their first game with the Cardinals had brought them a 1-7 loss.
Ballard’s win over St. Mary on August 28th, was a sweet victory bringing the Bombers its second win of the season. Their first win had been against Lyon Co. on Aug.20th. The Bomber’s 2-1 win over the Vikings was prompted early in the game when the Bombers scored 2 goals in the first half. Junior midfielder/forward Clayton Walker scored the first goal with an assist by Junior midfielder Weston Gordon. Junior midfielder Madison Wilson scored the second goal. A Viking was able to score a goal in the second half of the game, but it wasn’t enough to take down the Bombers.
The Bombers second chance at beating Massac Co. on August 30th didn’t play out as well as they would have liked. Their first game against the Patriots was played on Bomber territory and brought the Bombers a 0-6 loss on August 23rd. Just one week later, the Bombers met up with the Patriots again, but this time it was in Patriot territory. The first half was a disappointment for the Bombers as the Patriots were up 3-0 by the end of the half. Although the Bombers didn’t score during the first half, it wasn’t because they were not trying. Junior Clayton Walker shot the ball to the high right of the goal, but it narrowly missed the mark. The second half brought a goal by Junior fullback-midfielder Alex Maples off of a throw-in by Sophomore Colton Tremblay. The game ended with a 1-5 loss for Ballard Memorial.
