Homecoming Parade Information Parade date – October 10, 2013
Starting time of the parade: PROMPTLY AT 6:00 PM
Parade route: The parade will start on Union Rd. just south of the intersection of Wenger and Union Roads (by Kroger’s). The parade will travel north on Union Road into Centennial Park. At the conclusion of the parade there will be a bonfire. An approximate ending time for the parade should be7:00 PM; with the bonfire to conclude at approximately 8:00 PM.
General information: You should start getting your unit in line around 4:45 PM with all members of all units expected to be in line by 5:30 PM. Any unit NOT in line by 5:30 PM will be scratched from the parade! If you have a large unit (30+), I suggest you instruct your members to begin arriving at 4:45 PM – this will allow for extra traffic
After 4:30 PM there will be NO two-way traffic permitted on Union Road between Wenger and Old Salem. (Emergency vehicles ONLY!) Please advise any parents that they may drop off parade participants by parking along Newpark (see enclosed map) and walking their child to the respective staging area. I would advise them to them park close to (or in) Centennial Park to retrieve their child at the conclusion of the parade.
Please pass the following information along to ALL drivers/parents: Please do NOT park in any of the business establishments around the drop-off point. Those parking areas are for their customers and we want to be able to use this route/are in the future. CARPOOLING is strongly advised!!!
If you are a unit that will be distributing candy along the parade route please make sure all of your participants are aware of the following information – I have been repeatedly warned, from our administration, about past history of candy being thrown from parade vehicles to spectators along the parade route. The high school administration has received numerous phone calls from people complaining about the candy being thrown dangerously ‘at’ people. If we receive any complaints about your unit you will not be permitted to participate in our homecoming parade in the future. Advise ALL of your participants that candy can be distributed using a gentle underhand toss. NO overhand throwing will be permitted! We want this to be a fun and festive parade for all involved, participants and spectators. Thank you for your cooperation with this matter.
To drop off parade participants:
· Travel west on Wenger Road until you reach Northcreek
· Turn south (left) onto Northcreek – follow it around until you reach Newpark
· Turn east (left) onto Newpark, drive down as close as you can to Union Road, park you car and walk your child to the respective staging area.
