T-Bolt Cup Day 3 Final Results
October 10, 2012Northmont High School - Boys Golf
It is a shame that the Golf Channel was not out at Moss Creek Golf Club this afternoon on the final day of the 2012 Thunderbolt Cup. The atmosphere during our singles matches today was electric with 8 points on the line. Team "Dude Where's My Par?" began the day with a slim one point lead over team "Dukes of Hazard" (4.5 to 3.5). Captain Tanner Hoskins front loaded his lineup today sending himself, junior Clayton Swafford, and junior Bryce Timmons out in the first three matches. The gamble paid off as all three veteran players carded victories and points for the "Dukes". Freshmen Ben Sage stunned junior Kyle Leiter with a one stroke win to post the fourth consecutive point for his team to begin the day. That's right sports fans, the "Dukes of Hazard" won four in a row to take a commanding lead after starting the day one point behind.
Alex Farlow used a more traditional lineup saving his veteran players for final four decisive matches. As the afternoon progressed, the tide in the matches shifted as team "Dude Where's My Par?" turned things around and started putting up points of their own. Dylan Greer and Greg Peffley showed their grit as they posted two consecutive points for team "Dude". As the final group teed off on number nine, captain Farlow and freshmen David Rowlands both needed to post w's in order for team "Dude Where's My Par?" to win the T-Bolt Cup. Farlow drained his putt to claim victory over freshmen Wesley Kincaid leaving the overall point total tied at 7.5 for each team. The stage was set for fireworks as David Rowlands and Luke Knapke lined their putts up on the final green. With only two strokes separating the two best friends, anything could happen. Even though Luke drained a difficult five foot putt, David needed a two putt from a similar distance to claim victory for himself and his team. When David calmly rolled in the final putt of the matches, team "Dude Where's My Par?" was crowned champion of the 2012 Thunderbolt Cup! The final score 8.5 to 7.5.
For their efforts today Captain Farlow"s squad was awarded gold paint dipped golf balls. Captain Tanner Hoskins' team was given folding divot tools and ball markers for second place. In the end, it was not about the prizes earned but the competitive nature displayed by both teams. It was truly a Kodak moment to see both teams standing by the ninth green cheering their playing partners and competitors on to victory. This was truly the highlight of the 2012 Northmont Men's golf season. Consequently, it was the most fun I have had watching golf in a very long time.
Hats off to a good season and a fantastic T-Bolt Cup.
I truly cannot wait to see how great the thundbolts will be in 2013!
